The Samoyed chief god is Nim, or Ileumbarte (literally, 'Giver of Life'), the ruler of Heaven and Earth, although he never visits the Earth, lest he becomes polluted by it.

He manifests himself in storms, rain and snow, and remains completely indifferent to the affairs of humans. If he wishes to communicate with them, he does so via the spirits
