Keremeos is
the home of Crisandi Samoyeds. Nestled between three valleys of
orchard and vineyard country of the sunny Okanagan Valley in
BC's southern Interior.
Keremeos
lies alongside the Similkameen River and close to the
USA/Washington border at Oroville. Rugged mountains overlook the
valley, and most notably the K-Mountain with it's shale slides
forming the letter "K". (see picture above)

Small
herds of mountain goats can be seen on the rocky cliffs, and are
a common sight in spring. These goats often stand by the side of
the highway for easy viewing. Mule deer and big horn sheep are
also permanent residents and in the fall, black bears enjoy the
apple orchards in the valley. Rarely elk and moose are seen in
the mountains surrounding the valley, and even less frequent
visitors are grizzly bears. Cougars are frequent visitors and
have been seen on the rocks above our home. Coyotes are in
abundance and the Sammies enjoy midnight howling discussions
with them. |
| The
country is arid and desert like, with cactus and sage brush,
deer bush growing in abundance. This perfect climate makes for
perfect fruit growing country. Known for excellent sweet
cherries, apples, pears, plums and melons, the Similkameen is
fast becoming known for it vineyards and fine wines. The climate
in the Okanagan Similkameen being ideal for ice wine growing and
making. |
Nearby
is the world famous Cathedral Parks Provincial Park, and the
lesser known Keremeos Columns Park. Kabou Mountain lookout with
an amazing view is not well known but astronomers meet there
annually for stargazing. |
